Born in a family of actors and acting coaches, Robyn had made an early start in the entertainment industry. Her first acting role had come at the age of 6, as a child actress in the TV movie Summer of My German Soldier (1978).

In 1989, she was cast in the role of Jessica Andrews in the martial arts drama film The Karate Kid Part III. However, the producers of the film had to modify her role as protagonist Daniel LaRusso’s new love interest because she was only 17 years old whereas Ralph Macchio was 27 years old even though the character of Daniel that he was portraying was 18. This caused the scriptwriters to remove the romantic scenes between the 2 characters and limit their relationship to just a close friendship.

She had named her 2nd son, Wyatt Blake Johnson, after her younger half-sister and actress Blake Lively. Blake, in turn, had made Robyn the godmother of her first daughter, James Reynolds.
